Alice Isabel Silva Duarte

From the Monchique mountains, passionate about the art of movement, she refers to it as an essential form of expression, education, and intervention. She graduated in Dance from the Escola Superior de Dança (2016) and obtained a master's degree in Dance Teaching from the same institution with the project “CRIAR|    |ESPAÇO”, a disciplinary intersection between Dance and Architecture. She is a dance researcher and a doctoral candidate in Performing Arts and the Moving Image. Since 2019, she has been a resident artist of the Plano Nacional das Artes in Monchique and a certified Dance trainer. In 2021, she joined the Escola Superior de Dança as a professor of Movement Studies I, Interpretation I and III, and Project IV and V.

In 2022, she founded MEIO DO MATO – Cultural Association, through which she implements Arts Education projects in Monchique.
Notable collaborations include: TODOS Festival – Lisbon; LAVRAR O MAR – Aljezur and Monchique, FUSOS – Alte, Loulé, FÔLEGO – Central Region. As co-creations: GALERIA EM FESTA; PEGADAS DE UTOPIA; FESTIVAL VILAPALCO (2019) and Alucinação26 (Largo Residências). She was a guest artist in the MIRAGEM project – Odemira (Madalena Victorino), with the pieces “cavalo~marinho” (seahorse), “Atlas de Sonhos” (Atlas of Dreams), and “Ninguém para a minha Bicicleta” (Nobody Stops My Bicycle). She danced in “Companhia limitada – estação terminal” (Limited Company – Terminal Station) – Teatro Nacional D. Maria II; AL TEO BU – Baixo Alentejo; RASTILHO – Aljezur; MAR ADENTRO (Into the Sea) – Aljezur and Monchique and EVA PORO #2 – Bordeira, Aljezur; “Travessias” (Crossings) by Marta Jardim (CCB). She collaborated with LAIKA Company – Belgium, Giacomo Scalisi, Filipa Peraltinha, Jorge Ciprianno, Rita Rodrigues, Ricardo Machado, Marta Jardim, and Patrick Murys.

As a creator, she mentions “suber ou saber: o abismo” (cork or knowledge: the abyss) and “sobre viver a uma festa de anos” (about living through a birthday party) (Escola Superior de Dança); CASAIS (Couples), a co-creation with Madalena Victorino; the CYCLE “5 VILAS MUTANTES” (5 Mutant Villages): “Quando o fogo se aproxima” (When the Fire Approaches); “Em estado líquido” (In a Liquid State); “Agora e outrora” (Now and Then); “As plantas também crescem de noite e o Tamanho dos pensamentos” (Plants Also Grow at Night and the Size of Thoughts); and also “O último mergulho” (The Last Dive) – Grândola.
