Susana Vidal Canete
Born in Córdoba, Spain, in 1975, she has resided in Lisbon since 1997.
She is a stage director, teacher, researcher in scenic practices, playwright, actress, and visual artist. She holds a PhD in Artistic Practices from the Doctoral Program in Humanities, Arts, and Education at UCLM, and a Master's in Arts and a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from UCLM. She received an Intercampus Postgraduate Grant in Performing Arts and worked as a teaching assistant in acting at CEART-UDESC, Florianópolis (Brazil). She studied acting at the School of Dramatic Art, Actors branch, in Seville, Spain, and completed a contemporary dance and dance-theatre course at the Andalusian Dance Centre under the direction of Ramón Oller in Seville (Spain).
She is an invited adjunct professor at the Lisbon School of Education (IPL) in the Bachelor's degrees in Artistic and Cultural Mediation, Basic Education, Sociocultural Animation, and the Master's in Artistic Education, as well as in the postgraduate programs in Puppets and Animated Forms, and Storytelling Animation; an invited adjunct professor at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School (IPL) in the Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Production branch and Actors branch; and an invited assistant professor at the Lisbon Dance School (IPL) in the Bachelor's degree in Dance.
She was previously an invited adjunct professor in the Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts and Technologies at the Lusófona University; and in the Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts at the Lisbon School of Technologies and Arts. She has also been a teacher of Acting and Scenic Practices at the Inimpetus Professional School for Actors.
She has directed over forty shows that have been presented in countries such as France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Germany, and Portugal, among others. Some of her most relevant creations include: “A FRÁGIL PELE DO MUNDO” (THE FRAGILE SKIN OF THE WORLD), “SILÊNCIO. UM ACTO VIOLENTO PARA A VOSSA FADIGA” (SILENCE. A VIOLENT ACT FOR YOUR FATIGUE), “MALDITO SEJA O HOMEM QUE CONFIA NO HOMEM” (CURSED BE THE MAN WHO TRUSTS IN MAN), “ROSTO, CLAREIRA E DESMAIO” (FACE, CLEARING AND FAINT), “BOMBAS OU MORRER DURANTE UMA SEMANA” (BOMBS OR DIE FOR A WEEK), “AMOR CRU” (RAW LOVE)...
In university theatre, she directed the groups: GTIST, NNT-FCT, and Teatrubi. She won the Best Show Award at Fatal-2006 with the play "Escândalo" (Scandal) by Gtist, which she directed and wrote. This show represented Portugal at the Studiobunhe Festival in Cologne.
